This place always seems to be busy, which is a good sign. My husband and I decided to drop in to see if we could snag a table. Only had to wait a few minutes. We lucked out with one of the private rooms. The service was great and the food was delicious. Glad we went
The best sushi place in Fernie. We were surprised how good our sushi were, for such a small town the food quality was amazing. Also loved the modern music playlist! The cocktail menu is impressive, Toki Pom Sour is my favourite Must try sushi rolls - unagi, kryptonite, Krista, Fernie steak & chi roll. Thank you guys for a welcoming atmosphere and wonderful customer service. Keep in mind that most of the menu items are done from scratch and it takes a while to prepare your order.
I used to travel in and out of Fernie for work for the better part of a year and every single time I came back, I ate at Yamagoya multiple times per week. This is one of the best sushi spots I've been to and I have been around. I think I have tried everything on their menu (maki, handrolls, torched, sashimi, you name it) and I have never once been disappointed in something I ordered. Fresh, authentic seafood at a quality-matched price-point.. can't get much better than that. The service staff have always been friendly and attentive, and they have a wonderful selection of cocktails here that I encourage you to try. If you're ever in the area or even passing through on a cross-Canada road trip then please do yourself a favour and stop in here.
Amazing! I have been there a few times now and always impressed with the service and food. The seating space and ambience is not bad but also not great. It is a small restaurant though. But the rest totally makes up for it. The menu is huge and with some interesting twists if you are up to experimenting. I not once had a food item I did not like. The presentation is outstanding. And the Sake options are plenty. I tried the sampler, and it went well with the food. My server was Launa and she did an amazing job. Asked her for a food recommendation and it was THE best food item I had at the restaurant. She even had some time for a chat - which is nice for a lone business traveler. Definitely a place to check out if you are in Fernie. My Rating: '4 Stars' Very Good, '5 Stars' Way Above Expectations
Our experience was simply unforgettable! Our two servers were an absolute riot—knowledgeable, personable, and always ready with a great recommendation. The food was fresh, served quickly, and every bite was a delight. We even requested something off the menu, and they absolutely delivered on that too. The cocktail game was on point—next level and very well priced. A special shout-out goes to Natalie and Justine, who truly made our night. Their friendly and vibrant personalities had us laughing the whole evening, and they went out of their way to ensure my partner’s birthday was celebrated in style. Even though we arrived late, they accommodated us until the very end. This visit was definitely a highlight of our Fernie birthday road trip, and we can’t wait to come back again!
The Friday before a long weekend and the place was hopping. Friendly greetings at the door and we added ourselves to the waitlist. Service staff are very friendly. Excellent seating in a protected porch that gives you some views of the mountains. We started with some tempura and then a lobster roll and some teriyaki chicken. So delicious.
Great atmosphere, great food and selection and great service all around, can't go wrong here! Small place fills up quick on a busy day.
The sushi here was pretty good overall. I found the sticky rice could have been a bit softer and moister, though. We did have to wait longer than we anticipated for our food, which was a bit of a bummer. On the bright side, the sashimi was really tasty and a highlight of the meal. It’s a solid Japanese restaurant that’s definitely worth checking out.
